3 Bad Reasons To Use Linux

3) Compiz
I will admit compiz is some cool shit, but it's not a good reason to use linux. I'm not saying you shouldn't use it. But it shouldn't be the only reason you use linux.

2) Nerdy Rebellion
Don't use linux as some creepy form of nerdy teenage rebellion. Linux is an operating system, using it makes you no different or for that matter no cooler then the windows or mac users. I think at least a few people use Linux because they want to be different, and thats a bad reason to use linux.

1) You Love Mac But Are To Cheap
DON'T USE LINUX IF YOU LOVE MAC BUT ARE TO CHEAP TO BUY A MAC. If you want a mac buy a mac. Don't skin the crap out of linux in hopes of confusing yourself to the point where you mistake the ext3 filesystem for the hfs. No matter how many tutorials you follow, no matter how many times you tell it to yourself Linux isn't a Mac. DEAL WITH IT.

-- Delivered by Feed43 service

Linux Vs. Windows Vs. Mac: Icon Layout

This might be an odd thing to bring up but the truth is you can tell which OS it is just by looking at the icon layout. If I recall Mac normally assigns icons to the left. Windows, to the right. And Linux? People don't really use desktop icons in linux. I know this sounds weird but they really don't I mean maybe 1 or 2 icons but that it. Why don't linux users like icons? I dunno either. I mean they could have tons they just don't. Makes you think doesn't it.

Edit Anyway I looked up some linux screenshots on the web and I guess alot of em do use desktop icons. Most desktops I've seen in person don't have that many, eh who knows

-- Delivered by Feed43 service

How-to: Make a Large Quick Launch Bar In Ubuntu

Alright, I am going to show you how to make a simple quick-launch bar in ubuntu, this is really nice for small screens on things like netbooks, as the icons are big and all in the same place. Lets get started. First create a new panel in gnome. To do this right click an existing panel and click "New Panel"

We need to edit some of the panel settings so right-click and select “Properties”

Now we need to change the width to make it nice and big, I suggest setting it to 64px as this is a standard width for icons

Then if you have made your panels any different you need to edit the settings on this one to match. These are my settings, your are probably different.

<a href=”http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/6931/backgroundbz4.png">

Now just drag any programs you want into your new toolbar, I dragged the icon from Applications > Internet > Web Browser.

<a href=”http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4496/draghe3.png">

And the finished product

<a href=”http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7567/screenshotgx3.png">
Also it will autohide so you don't need to always see it!

-- Delivered by Feed43 service
