March 10 to March 11: Coming of Age Leaders Training (Seattle, Washington, United States)

This two-day training, March 10 � 11 ($250), provides the conceptual framework and practical tools to bring rites of passage into your own community. For the past 15 years, Journeys has drawn upon more than 40 years of experience to teach dozens of schools, organizations, churches and communities how to create rites of passage for their youth. Join us as we explore coming of age program design, and examine in-depth critical pieces of contemporary rite of passage programs: adult mentorship, the teaching power of nature, and the artisanship of ritual. This introductory workshop is meant to help you awaken the ritual leader in you; to ignite your playful and authentic inner-ritualist! You will get a taste of just how easy it is to bring new rituals into your life or revitalize existing ones. We all, as humans, have both the need and capacity for ritual. They connect us with larger and deeper realities than our everyday existence and help us to build authentic community among us. April 15 to November 1: Alpaca/Llama & Organic Vegetable Market Gardens Apprenticeships (Dome Creek, British Columbia, C...

Nutrition and basic health maintenance will be experienced and hands on care of our herd of 22 alpacas and 3 llamas. Teeth, nails, worming, and wound dressing/medication will be covered. Shearing techniques, tools, sharpening will be presented. Sorting, bagging/preparation for shipment will be ongoing tasks. Current products, as well as the current marketing efforts will be reviewed. Field trips to the local Farmer's Market and 1-2 additional alpaca operations are planned... New garden extension, soil preparation, fencing, planting templates, spacing, mounding, irrigation/watering, trellis/supports, weed control, staggered planting/harvest, packaging preparation/shipping describes the myriad tasks that will be encountered engaging in the organic garden programme. Seed selection and sources as well as the paperwork aspects of organic certification and requirements of wholesale purchasers are covered.Food preservation techniques will be shared. Field trips, too!

July 1 to July 7: Becoming a Young Woman (Bainbridge Island, Washington, United States)

How would it change the teenage years of a girl to have mentors, who have walked the path before her, to guide her with love and wisdom into adolescence? The journey of self-discover builds confidence and clarity for emerging young women. Becoming a Young Woman offers a unique opportunity to celebrate and honor the changes of this time in a girl's life. Connecting her hand-to-hand with a long line of women before her, she is welcomed into the larger community with a fuller understanding of the inherent gifts of womanhood. This is the beginning of her claiming her power. This group of 10 middle school girls (ages 12 - 14) will explore what it means to step out of childhood and into young womanhood with the guidance and support of two fabulous female mentors. The group will spend a week at a moonlodge; engaging in a rite of passage experience to celebrate the conscious step into young womanhood. Read more on our website.
